Paper Music

A song and film cycle  for voices, piano, LP players, film and art objects – premiere 2014

Paper Music is a witty, poignant, a gently subversive song-and-film cycle; it unites films, animations based on William Kentridge’s charcoal and ink drawings, with the live music by Philip Miller. Live musical performances by vocalists Ann Masina and Joanna Dudley, pianist Vincenzo Pasquariello.. A fascinating exploration of the relationships between sound and image. Vaudeville, opera and film come together in this absurdist-poetic 'cine-concert' by William Kentridge and composer Philip Miller. Paper Music is a veritable sensory universe, melancholy and visionary at once.

Paper Music was premiered at the Museo del Bargello in Firenze and presented in Carnegie Hall NYC, Louis Vuitton Foundation Paris, Philharmonie de Paris, Luxembourg Grand Theatre, ArtBasel, Abu Dhabi Art Fair, Gropius Bau Berlin, Berliner Festspiel, Muziekgebouw Amsterdam Holland Festival, Jorge Eliécer Gaitán Municipal Theater. Bogota and  Teatro Santander Bucaramanga, Colombia.
